Perna Caniculus is the latin name for the mollusc found in New Zealand. Generally, the mussels found on our shores are yellow or orange inside once steamed; in New Zealand they are green. We have been using Green Lipped Mussels in veterinary medicine for over 10 years with great success for hip dysplasia and osteoarthritis. Recently one of our clients came back from Down Under and told us that almost everyone with osteoarthritis was taking this so called magic potion called Green Lipped Mussels. They seem to be the perfect food and contain not only Omega3’s, but glucosamine, and support for collagen, which helps us make up our cartilage. So not only are they fantastic for your older pets, but they can really help humans with degenerative disease.
