Pet or animal medications need to be compounded in special dosage forms to meet the unique needs of each animal. These include pets, exotic animals, reptiles, zoo animals, and livestock. Procuring and administering the appropriate medication for your individual pet can be extremely challenging. Ford's Apothecary has extensive experience in the compounding of specialized medicines to help veterinarians and animal care specialists treat all kinds of animals. We prepare medications in easy-to-administer flavoured dosages that animals devour. We have developed pet medicine for dogs, cats, horses, birds, reptiles and many other species.

Often, commercially available pet medicine is offered only in a limited number of sizes or strengths. The requirements of your household pet, for instance, will vary greatly from the needs of cattle or livestock. Ford's Apothecary will create a medication containing the appropriate dosage for a specific species or animal. This customized pet medicines are easier to administer and will often save you time, effort, and money.
Manufacturers routinely discontinue production of animal medicines and dosage forms which are unprofitable because of low demand. Nevertheless, your pet's sickness or condition might still be helped with such a known compound. Your veterinary formulation may be unavailable and/or commercially available human medications won't solve your animal's medical problem. At Ford's Apothecary we have the knowledge, expertise, and practical experience, using pharmaceutical-grade chemicals, to custom compound unique dosages to speed the recovery and health of your beloved pets.

We can prepare numerous forms of dosage which are perfect for specific animals--from oral liquids to rectal suppositories, from ear drops to dusting powders. The necessary active ingredients to heal or clear-up your animal's condition can usually be administered by one of the following routes: oral, transdermal, otic, etc. An example of this variability in dosage administration is--if a known oral medication produces some form gastrointestinal distress, then trans-dermal absorption (with one of our specially compounded creams, gels, or ointments) is often preferable.
Your animal's medical condition could require multiple kinds of pet medicine. There may be symptoms caused by various ailments. Sometimes conditions requiring treatment with medications will not be resolved by single-ingredient preparations. Your veterinarian may want your animal to have two or three medications. However, the costs and inconvenience of using three medications from separate manufacturers in varying dosage forms may be completely prohibitive. At Ford's Apothecary we can compound the required concentrations of all prescribed medications into a single base--thereby making administration easier and more economical for you and your pet. We can also prepare solutions containing more than one drug for delivery by nebulizer. These forms of medication are very convenient in the care of horses and livestock.
The possibilities of caring for your animal are endless.
